While women are the predominant victims of domestic violence, a small percentage of men also face verbal, emotional or physical abuse at the hands of their intimate partners. Abused men often endure in silence because they might believe in traditional gender roles and, therefore, think that only women can be abused and not be the abusers. Men might also suffer abuse in silence because they are:
- Too embarrassed to reveal their abuse
- Afraid that no one will believe them or take them seriously
- Afraid being mocked and ridiculed if they admit that they are being abused
Abuse is not something you should suffer in silence.
