Volunteer Opportunities @ Maitri

Do you want to Volunteer?

Maitri greatly believes that long term, systemic change can happen only though individual volunteers. You can make a difference by contributing some of your time energy and talent for the causes Maitri holds. This is a very good opportunity to contribute, develop your skills and to interact with other volunteers who have the best of intentions like yours. Volunteers meet on a monthly basis to discuss/review their work.

Fundraising Coordinator: Fund-raisers solicit contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals. They develop fund-raising drives, organize other volunteers to run them, and monitor progress every step of the way. Your most important function will be marketing: You should be able to sell the worthiness of Maitri’s cause, to the public. A part of your job could include writing down the best slogan, most compelling speeches and press releases.

Volunteer Profile: Ideal for candidates who are passionate to work with people, who are interested in marketing and talking about our cause with enthusiasm.

Time commitment: Variable

Outreach Coordinator: As an outreach coordinator, your duties will encompass more than rounding up and retaining eager volunteers. You will be regarded, in a larger sense, as the general representative of the Maitri for outreach purposes. You will be expected to work closely with, support and collaborate efforts with the staffs and volunteers for the outreach purposes. You will also be required to contact broad spectrum of promotional outlets, print and electronic media to establish a strong support coalition. You job duties could also include providing public presentations and demonstrations to potential support groups.

Volunteer Profile: As a pre-requisite for this position, you must have extensive experience and confidence in working along with diversified set of work group.

Administrative Assistant: Perform the day-today clerical and administrative functions such as drafting correspondence, scheduling appointments, organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files, or providing information to callers. You would also be required to do administrative tasks such as database maintenance, programmatic support documentation and website maintenance.

Volunteer Profile: The opportunity is ideal for candidates who have reasonable computer skills like M.S Word, excel etc.The candidate is also expected to have strong interest in organizing and managing office affairs.

Time Commitment: Up to 20 hours a month

Event planner: The job involves interacting with other event planners and volunteers to coordinate events. You will be responsible for assisting the preparation for the upcoming events, post event activities, administrative work involved with the events etc. One of the primary functions of your job may be to designate a specific goal for every event, e.g. "to raise community awareness of our nonprofit's mission" or "to raise $15,000 for the children’s summer program.” You will be responsible to check throughout the planning process that this goal is front and center in everyone's mind. You job will also include deciding what aspects of the event will be portioned out to volunteers, which will be handled by the organization's staff, and which will require outside hiring.

Do you want to Volunteer?

Interpretation Volunteer: As an interpretation volunteer your goal would be to increase language access to survivors of domestic violence by providing interpretation and translation services. Your duties shall include providing in-person and telephonic interpretation services to limited English speaking survivors of domestic violence to facilitate their work with Maitri Advocates

Volunteer Profile: This opportunity is ideal for somebody who is highly motivated for our cause, and is multilingual.

Time commitment: On Call (As needed and as available)

Newsletter Committee: The Newsletter committee members are responsible for producing four to six newsletters per year. The Newsletter contains recent news and events related to Maitri and contact information for upcoming events. In short the Newsletter Committee is committed to providing up-to-date fast read information for Maitri members and its well wishers on a quarterly basis, and will strive to be the primary source of information regarding Maitri. You other duties will include checking the drafts of the newsletter before publication and controlling the list of email newsletter recipients and those who receive the paper version.

Volunteer Profile: The ideal candidate should have the ability to lead a team and work in a team. The candidate is expected to have strong communication/interpersonal skills. Candidates with ability to meet deadlines and able to identify and report problems with meeting those deadlines are highly encouraged to apply.

Advocacy/Client work: You responsibility will include accompanying a client and playing the role of an advocate. You might need to accompany a client to social service offices, enroll in school, hospital appointments, legal appointments, or to the court. This role is very critical especially for clients who are monolingual or new immigrants to the United States. Volunteer playing an accompanying role will work with very closely with the client and will be supervised by the transitional house coordinator.

Volunteer Profile: This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are highly motivated for our cause, have an ear to the ground and who are interested in direct community involvement, organizing and support. You will be required to undergo 40 hour training on domestic violence.

Time Commitment: This position will require you to give us a minimum of two years time commitment. You have to take the California State Mandated 40 hours Domestic Violence Training for this position

Website Manager: You responsibility is to work towards maintaining site standards with regard to new development. In addition to writing, editing, and proofreading site content you will be responsible for maintaining a consistent look and feel throughout the web properties. You will also be expected to keep current with emerging web technologies through relevant blogs, listservs, and events. You will also be responsible to edit and /or approve content contributions made by users and website content specialist.

Volunteer Profile: You will be the ideal person for this volunteer position if you are a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and skills in web content management, writing and editing for the web, graphic design and site management.

Time Commitment: Variable

Website Content Specialist (WCS): Your responsibility is to develop the look and feel of the website so that the user is able to easily navigate and use our features and functionality in order to create a seamless user experience. You will be working closely with the Website Manager for continuous site development. You will also be responsible for making day to day small changes to the website and maintaining it.

Volunteer Profile: The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organizing skills. The candidate should have the ability to give attention to the smallest details and should have basic adobe Photoshop skills. Previous experience on managing content and production for websites are appreciated.
