S8 E4: Honoring Lives Lost, Standing with Survivors
Podcast Description:
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time for us to stand together, raise awareness, support survivors, and remember those whose lives have been lost to domestic violence. Domestic violence is not always visible. It can happen behind closed doors, within relationships, and in families that may appear fine on the outside. We must recognize the serious connection between domestic violence and homicide, particularly when threats, stalking, escalating abuse, and access to firearms are involved.
In this discussion, Maitri advocates discuss some of the recent DV-related homicides, restraining order protection – why it could fail to keep a victim safe in certain situations and how community members can help - recognizing the warning signs, listening without judgment, helping survivors find support, and taking threats seriously is crucial to helping those who are undergoing abuse.
