NCVR Week 2026: A Day in Gratitude

This year, in observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Maitri hosted “A Day in Gratitude” on April 23, 2026, to honor the collaboration and support of Bay Area organizations in assisting victims and survivors of domestic violence and in joining the movement to end violence.

Maitri’s multilingual resources highlighting victims’ and survivors’ rights, magazines featuring contributions from Maitri staff and clients, and art activities for guests were among the attractions of the event. Our Client Advocates, the Violence Prevention Program lead, and Executive Director shared remarks celebrating the partnerships that make comprehensive care possible for individuals experiencing family violence. Certificates of Appreciation were distributed to attending organizations.

The movement continues—until safety, dignity, and justice belong to all.

NCVR Week 2025: Maitri Panel on Domestic Violence Homicides in Our Communities

Maitri joined organizations nationwide from April 6 to April 27, 2025, to observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. This year’s theme of KINSHIP is a call to action to recognize that shared humanity should be at the center of supporting all survivors and victims of crime. KINSHIP is a state of being with survivors that drives vital connections to services, rights, and healing. KINSHIP is where victim advocacy begins. To observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Maitri presented a virtual panel with South Asian SOAR and Peaceful Families Project on Wednesday, April 9 (11 am to 12 pm).

At this panel, panelists from Maitri, South Asian SOAR, and Peaceful Families Project (PFP) addressed recent domestic violence homicide incidents in the South Asian communities and shared insights as well as tips to engage community members in domestic violence prevention activities.

On April 25, 2023 Maitri commemorated National Crime Victims’ Rights Awareness Week (April 23 to April 29, hosted by the US Department of Justice) to present our findings on South Asian community perspective on marital rape and consent in intimate relationships. The findings were the culmination of a two-year long process engaging with experts, policy specialists, advocates, survivors and general community members. Maitri offered multiple avenues for individuals to share their opinions. We offered separate listening sessions for male and female community members; sessions for survivors, and sessions for advocates. Invited panelists are Urja Patel and Sanjana Lakshmi.
