Victim Rights Advocacy Project Recommendations
The California Victims’ Bill of Rights Act (CVRA) was written in a way that left much to interpretation, resulting in confusion about when the rights afforded to victims were actually allowable for victims. Community Solutions initiated the Santa Clara County Victim Rights Advocacy Project (VRAP) to address gaps in victim rights and access. VRAP aims to increase survivor access to the criminal and civil justice systems through: (1) clear understanding of existing federal, state, and local victim rights laws and policies; (2) consistent application of existing victim rights laws; and (3) enactment of local policies to bridge gaps in victim rights laws.
In partnership with Community Solutions, Maitri, Evident Change, and the South Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking, VRAP has identified gaps from the perspective of survivors and advocates and are developing overarching recommendations.
