Legal Advocacy

Maitri’s Legal Program provides free, confidential and holistic services for South Asian survivors of domestic violence.  We provide consultations with legal experts and tools for learning how to navigate the system and use available resources. We also offer legal clinics and community education on domestic violence, immigrant rights and cultural competence.

Our Services include:

  • Safety planning guide

  • Answers to legal questions

  • Legal information on family law

  • Referrals to attorneys or other non-profit agencies where appropriate

  • Restraining order paperwork and preparation for court hearing and court accompaniments

  • Immigration law overview

  • Assistance with form preparation in family and immigration law matters

  • Screening tools to identify clients for U/T visa or VAWA Act self-petition applications

  • Language assistance in more than 12 South Asian languages
